The basis for the embroidery can be cotton, linen, cloth, wool, silk and blended fabric, both factory and homemade.

Any tissue consists of a base — longitudinal yarns (they are parallel to edge) and weft — cross threads. The picture that is created as a result of interleaving of these threads is called weaving.

The weave is simple and smooth (twill, plain, satin, sateen). The most simple weave — plain. Here the warp and weft are interwoven in a checkerboard pattern, using one. The result is the front and inside fabric is the same.

Embroidery can be performed on any tissue with interlacing; however, fabric with plain weave are most comfortable stitching strokewise and counting threads, so they often perform the counting embroidery, as the figure easily enough assembled all the calculations accurately, you can run before work.

On fabrics with other types of weave usually embroider on the traced design. For embroidery free stitch you can use any fabric with a smooth and uniform surface.

When choosing fabrics it is necessary also to consider the appointment of manufactured products. So, for napkins, tablecloths, tracks, curtains better to take flax, linen with polyester, the fray, the harsh fabric; for panels and mats to choose matting, kanivka, burlap, crinoline, canvas, cloth, wool, fabric, drape; and bags, wallets and Gazetny — any fabric with a smooth structure unexpressed. For decorating blouses, dresses, shirts, children's clothes typically use a thin fabric — silk, Voile, Batiste, fine wool, synthetic and mixed fabrics. For outerwear choose a drape, cloth, non-woven materials.

It should also be noted that the stitching there is a special fabric — canvas, in the weave which cells are formed. Depending on different varieties of material, they can be different sizes. Typically, the size of the canvas is determined by the number of fabric.

Canvas embroidery can be done independently. For this we need to pull fabric yarn account: first along the canvas, and then across.

Usually the fabric used in the manufacture of embroidery with a solid pattern that covers the entire base without gaps. The fabric can be attached to the working fabric seam "forward a needle" along and across the figure. Moreover, before operation, be sure to check the thickness of the canvas and working cloth — 2 material must be the same.

Don't forget when preparing fabric to embroidery to take into account the allowances for stretching it on a frame.
